LHW Headliners: The Season Hats on Making it in Contemporary Millinery – the creative and commercial aspects of modern headwear
April 6 @ 11:45 am - 1:00 pm| £15
Launched in 2014, The Season Hats is a millinery brand fulfilling the headwear needs of the modern international wardrobe with Intelligent Elegant Hats. They recently took part in London Fashion Week as part of BFC NEWGEN for SS/AW19, having previously shown at LFW through the BFC/Stephen Jones Headonism initiative.
Paul Stafford and his wife Selina Horshi launched The Season Hats in 2014. Paul holds an MA in Natural Sciences, which is the basis for his scientific and engineered approach to construction. He trained in traditional technique under couture milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan (milliner to HRH the Queen) to learn detailed handwork. During his MA in Fashion Womenswear (Millinery), from the Royal College of Art in London, Paul refined his approach to design, how he works with materials, and defining his softly geometric aesthetic.
Paul’s engineered yet playful approach works with each material’s properties and integrates materials in innovative ways. His design development is always built on what has been learned from earlier work, with increasingly finely applied technique and material investigation. Each collection represents a crystallization of ideas at that moment – objects that are a culmination of all of their investigation to date, while forming the starting point of their future work.
Beautifully high-fashion with a desirable minimalism, The Season Hats has a unique style, offering contemporary refinement combined with wearability. It has become a highly sought after brand, sold at Brown Thomas as part of their CREATE initiative, The Eternal Headonist (Melbourne), Hatwoman (Hong Kong) and online through their own website, LoveHats.com, Hood London and The Garnered.
As part of the LHW Headliners Series, Paul will be speaking about his work prior to launching The Season Hats and the processes involved in the design and construction of new pieces. He will also share experiences and insights gained from showing at London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week and his involvement with the British Fashion Council’s Headonism and NEWGEN initiatives.
This event is part of the exciting new LHW Headliners – a special series of hat related talks and demonstrations taking place during London Hat Week 2019. Attendees should meet at the LHW Supplier Fair in Atrium 1 of Guy’s Hospital at 11:45am so that they can be directed to the Headliners Lecture Theatre. The talk will begin at noon and will last approximately 1 hour.
